Compulsory Basic Training (C.B.T.) is designed for complete novices who have never ridden a Motorcycle, Moped or Scooter before.
A CBT certificate provides you with a two year validation of the right to use a provisional motorcycle licence, allowing you to ride a motorbike or scooter up to 125cc on L-plates.
CBT is a one-day training course that must be completed before you can be issued with a CBT certificate. It is a government requirement in order to ensure that new riders are safe and competent road users.

What is Compulsory Basic Training (C.B.T.)?
C.B.T. is a training course for complete novices, first introduced in 1990 it was designed to give learner motorcycle, scooter and moped riders the basic skills to go and ride safely on the road on their own.
C.B.T. is divided into 5 elements:
A. Introduction including a chat on helmets and safety clothing plus eyesight check.
B. Off road Training including machine controls, stand use, basic maintenance, wheeling the machine and starting/stopping the engine
C. Off road training including pulling away and stopping, breaking, gear changing, observation, slow speed riding, u-turn, emergency stop and OSM PSL (left and right turn procedure)
D. On road training here we cover thirteen subjects including road position, speed, anticipation, Highway Code and attitude.
E. Finally we go out on road for two hours and will learn how to deal with roundabouts, junctions, traffic lights, gradients, bends, obstructions, pedestrian crossings and we will do another u-turn/emergency stop on road.
You are expected to be able to do everything in an element before proceeding to the next one!

CBT Test
Scooter CBT Training London
London traffic increases all the time so scooters are becoming increasingly popular. You can ride a scooter up to 125cc on L-plates so long as you have a provisional motorcycle licence and a valid CBT certificate. A one day CBT course is all you need to get on the road.

Moped CBT Test London
Full car driving licences issued before 1st February 2001 already provide full moped entitlement and do not require anything else.
If your full car driving licence was issued after 1st February 2001 then you need to complete a CBT in order to validate your full moped entitlement. In this case only, your CBT does not need to be renewed every two years. Your CBT and moped entitlement maintains its validity until your 70th birthday.

Motorbike and Motorcycle CBT Course London
A CBT is the first step towards a future of biking around London. Once you have your CBT, you can ride a 125cc motorbike or motorcycle on L-plates. You may decide to practise your riding and get a full licence so that you can ride a larger motorbike. Ask us about a DAS – Direct Access course.
